Choose a position with morning sun and some afternoon shade, with protection from harsh winds to preserve the delicate flower stems. Space 45cm apart to allow for natural spreading and colony formation. Maintain soil fertility with annual mulching using organic matter such as compost, bark chips, or leaf mould applied in spring. Ensure consistent moisture throughout the growing season, particularly during dry spells, though established plants show good drought tolerance once the root system is well-developed. For container cultivation, use good quality multipurpose compost in a pot at least 35cm wide with excellent drainage. This variety makes an attractive specimen for patio containers and is particularly effective when combined with other architectural perennials. Feed with general purpose fertiliser in early spring. Deadhead spent flower stems after flowering to maintain the plant's neat appearance and prevent excessive self-seeding, though some gardeners prefer to leave seed heads for winter interest.
