What are Rhododendrons?

Rhododendrons are a genus of flowering plants that belong to the heath family, Ericaceae. They are evergreen or deciduous shrubs or small trees with showy flowers and leathery leaves. This blooming specimen is ideal for many landscapes and fairly low maintenance when planted properly.

Types of Rhododendrons:

There are over 1,000 species of rhododendrons, but some of the most common types include:

1. Azaleas - a type of rhododendron with smaller, often fragrant flowers and deciduous leaves.
2. Catawba Rhododendron - a large, evergreen shrub with large clusters of pink to purple flowers.
3. Rosebay Rhododendron - a tall, evergreen shrub with pink to white flowers.
4. Yak Rhododendron - a small, evergreen shrub with bell-shaped flowers in shades of pink, purple, and white.
5. Dwarf Rhododendron - a small, compact shrub with small, waxy leaves and small, brightly coloured flowers.
6. Rhododendron 'Nova Zembla' - a popular hybrid with large clusters of bright red flowers.
